· Last year's Spotlight on Sanremo
· Once again, it looks like RAI is planning to broadcast the Festival live on the Internet. You will need a RealVideo player to watch the broadcast.
Visit the RAI Official Festival di Sanremo site for more information!
· Hosting this year's Festival is old favorite Pippo Baudo, who seems to have taken total control of the Festival
The scoring in this year's Sanremo is divided in also 3 parts, but a bit different
from last year:
- a panel of ten music experts, composed ooff internationally known artists,
producers and critics from the entertainment industry (they will probably
control a larger share of the voting) will no longer vote on I Big, only on I Giovani and will make up just 25% of that vote
- a jury made up of representatives from aalll parts of Italy; these will be
regular citizens representing every demographic, that will change every night
- the final third is a group of Italian ciittizens who will get to vote by phone
and represent the cd buyer
The nightly lineup is as follows:
March 5 – all 20 Big will perform
March 6 and 7 – 8 Giovani and 10 Big each night, 3 Giovani will be eliminated on each night
March 8 – the 10 remaining Giovani compete for the final time and all 10 Big will give a one-minute performance of their song
March 9 – the grand finale, all 20 Big and super guests!

T here are a couple of former winners in this year's festival: Matia Bazar won with the song "...E Dirsi Ciao" in 1978 and have been doing well with their songs in a number of past festivals, including 3rd place last year; Fausto Leali won in 1989 with Anna Oxa("Ti Lascero''). Enrico Ruggeri is a two-time winner with the rock hit “Mistero” about 5 years ago and “Si Puo Dare di piu” in the late 80’s, sung together with Umberto Tozzi and Gianni Morandi.
There are also winners in past New Singers competition: Zarrillo won in 1987 with "La Notte dei Pensieri" (which didn’t make much sense since he appeared on an earlier edition of the New Singers), Gazosa won it just last year with "Stai con me forever."
